Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use the service?
Adults aged 18 or over who are physically located in India at the time of the consultation. Availability is subject to clinical suitability and applicable requirements, and the surgeon may decide that a case is not suitable for online consultation.
What types of surgical problems can be discussed?
General surgical problems such as abdominal pain, hernias, gallbladder and digestive symptoms, lumps and bumps, anorectal conditions, and questions about proposed general surgical operations. If your problem falls outside general surgery, you will be advised to seek an appropriate specialist.
Which reports can I upload?
Blood tests, ultrasound, CT, MRI and X-ray reports, endoscopy reports, histology reports, discharge summaries and doctors' letters. Files must be PDF, JPG or PNG. Size and number limits are shown on the upload form.
How does the consultation take place?
You submit your details and reports securely through TheSurgeon.in. After reviewing your case, the surgeon arranges a time and sends joining instructions through your patient portal. The consultation then takes place by Zoom or WhatsApp.
Will the consultation be through Zoom or WhatsApp?
Yes. The consultation is a video call of 15 or 30 minutes (you choose when booking) by Zoom or WhatsApp video. The surgeon confirms which when the appointment is arranged. Consultations are not recorded.
How much does a consultation cost?
There are two options: a 15-minute video consultation for ₹2,000.00 (INR) or a 30-minute video consultation for ₹3,500.00 (INR). Reviewing the symptoms, history and reports you submit beforehand is included; there is no separate report-review fee. Payment is subject to verification, and your appointment is not confirmed until the surgeon confirms it.
Can I receive a second opinion before an operation?
Yes. You can use the consultation to discuss an operation you have been advised to have, including its risks, benefits and alternatives.
Can the surgeon guarantee a diagnosis?
No. An online consultation relies on the information and reports you provide and does not include a physical examination. The surgeon may suggest possible diagnoses, but a definitive diagnosis may require examination or further tests. Surgery will not necessarily be recommended.
What happens if a physical examination is necessary?
If the surgeon considers that you need to be examined, you will be advised to see a doctor locally and, where appropriate, what kind of specialist to see.
What happens if my symptoms are urgent?
This is not an emergency service. If your symptoms are severe or getting worse, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. If the surgeon identifies a potentially urgent problem when reviewing your case, you will be advised to seek urgent local assessment.
How are my records protected?
Your information is sent over an encrypted connection, uploaded files and clinical notes are encrypted when stored, and access is limited to you and the surgeon. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Please see the Cancellation and Refund Policy. In summary, if the surgeon decides your case is not suitable for online consultation before it takes place, the fee is refunded in line with that policy.
Can patients outside India book?
No. Clinical consultations are only available to patients who are physically located in India at the time of the consultation. Patients outside India cannot complete a booking.
